Herbal Medicine

 

Every agro-climatic zone has its own list of medicinal plants and they find a place in the tradition of every society. To encourage use of traditional herbs amongst villagers to cure common and non serious ailments Dr. Soham Pandya has popularised a system of production, processing and marketing of number of medicinal herbs at village level. Some of them are listed below.

Shatawari (Asparagus recemosus): This medicinal plant has traditional use in 10 gynaecological problems like less milk in lactating mothers, white discharge, irregular menstruation Cycle (MC), Shatawari Kalp is very popular

Adulsa (Adathoda vasica): It is known as expectorant and cures cough cold and mild asthma

Korphad (Aloe vera): It is good coolant and healer of skin.

Bael (Aegle marmelos): Fruit and leaves of the plant cures number of gastric problems like dysentery.

Nirgudi (Vitex nigundo): This herb is used to make massage oil to deal with arthritic rheumatism.

Out Come: 2,500 people are trained to cultivate and 250 women are trained to process medicinal herbs.
