Watershed Management

As Head of “Mother NGO”, Dr. Soham Pandya worked in the field of Watershed Management, (a program of “Ministry of Agriculture”, Government of Maharashtra) during 10th and 11th Five year plan to transfer appropriate technologies and methodologies to Program Implementing Agencies (PIA) of Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia associated with Government and Non Government organizations.

Extension: Dr. Soham Pandya transferred appropriate technologies like Water Harvesting; Soil Management; Biotechnology; Organic Farming; Food Processing; Processing of NTFP; Herbal Medicine; Natural Dying etc. to thousands of farmers and SHG members of 220 villages of Vidarbha region.

In many cases trained beneficiary converted technologies in to trade. 

Soil and Water Management: Management of these resources is necessary in an area where the land is denuded. Following are some actions which play a crucial role in the management of soil and water.

Ridge to valley approach for ensuring minimum soil erosion and minimum water runoff;

Large scale Plantation in waste land;

Construction of Continuous contour trenches (CCT)

Making Loose Boulder Structures (LBS)

Digging Farm Ponds

Erecting Earthen Dams and

Inserting Cement Plugs (CP) in drainage lines.

These measures ensure availability of water round the year for agriculture, horticulture, social forestry etc.

Renewable Energy

 

CED is interacting with various institutions like Gramin Samasya Mukti Trust (GSMT), Jalaka, Yavatmal to make Deenbandhu Biogas Plants for the beneficiaries living in remote villages of Yavatmal District. Dr. Soham Pandya conducted a survey in the village and found out whether it is possible or not to make Biogas Plants in proximity of houses.

Discussion is afoot with M. P. Birla Group to make Briquettes using agro waste. Also a proposal entitled “Converting Agro Waste as a source of Energy Using Appropriate Technology” is given to the agency for giving training to trainees from 10 different villages namely Mukutban, Adegaon, Yedashi, Heerapur, Pimparwadi, Bailampur, Kothoda and Parsoda.

Pottery

Pottery Technology (Duration 07th March 2022 to 19th March 2022): NIRD&PR , Hyderabad sponsored 13 days training program was conducted in the premises of Department of Rural Craft and Design, Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural development (MGIRI) & it was attended by 36 participants (women and men). They learned different aspects of pottery. In the training program trainees were given inputs in the following subjects.

a) Making clay body, i.e. paste or putty b) Shaping and Moulding; c) Firing or baking; d) Decorating, such as glazing (slipping), painting, etc

Production of pottery ware involved number of techniques and some of them,       taught to trainees are Hand-building; The potter’s wheel; Granulate pressing; Injection moulding; Jiggering and jolly; Slip casting etc.
